Clare VEC Courses

The Clare Adult Basic Education Service (CABES) currently provide a free and confidential service in the Newmarket-on-Fergus Family Centre for adults who want to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, spelling, basic maths and basic computers.  Classes are also provided in other areas such as English for speakers of other languages.  Learners can work on their own with a tutor or can join a small learning group.  

Courses include:

  • Reading , writing and spelling and everyday maths 
  • E-learning and basic computers
  • Preparing for your Driver Theory Test
  • Basic IT and literacy skills (ITABE)

The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) also run courses in the new VEC centre in Shannon.  The Back to Education Initiative provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults.  The aim is to give people an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities.  For further details contact Mike Ryan, BTEI Co-ordinator, at 065 6824819.

 

 

The Clare Family Learning Project supports parents and children by emphasising the importance of the home as a learning environment.  The provide courses locally which are designed to encourage parents to become involved in their children's education at an early age.  The also provide parents with the opportunity to improve their own literacy and numeracy skills.  For further information contact Mary Flanagan VEC at 065 6824819.
