Playground Development Committee

The initial idea of a community playground came about through a community needs audit conducted by Waves Consultancy in 2004.  From this Obair began a process of facilitating members of the community to come together to start looking at setting up a playground.

Two public meetings were held in the Family Centre during 2005 and facilitated by an external expert in the area of playground development.  Arising from these meetings a local committee was formed, with the support of Obair to oversee this development.

A Landscape Architect was contracted to source the most appropriate site in the village.  The site selected was adjacent to the library and family centre.  Throughout 2006, the committee continued to meet regularly focuing on the grant application due to be submitted to Clare County Council in early 2007.

As part of the application a survey was conducted to establish local consensus.  However, while the results of the survey were extremely positive the committee agreed to stop the grant application process in response to a resident petition against the proposed location.

Should any community members or groups identify a playground site, the Playground Committee supported  by Obair is available to recommence work on the grant application in time for the 2008 deadline.
